Energy Diversity Improves Energy Security

| More

Most Americans agree that the country needs to reduce its dependence on oil from the Middle East. Several good options – like solar, wind, biofuels, natural gas, hydrogen and even increasing oil production here in the U.S. – are available to help cut America’s reliance on energy from this volatile part of the world. Numerous energy experts advocate an “all of the above” strategy of harnessing as many promising energy alternatives as possible. That’s because America becomes a safer and more secure country when it has a diverse energy supply that is not dependent on any one place or fuel source.

Part of the Solution

A Happy FamilySugarcane ethanol is one such alternative. This sweeter alternative could be part of the solution for diversifying U.S. energy supplies, increasing healthy competition among biofuel manufacturers and improving America’s energy security. Compared to other types of ethanol widely available today, sugarcane ethanol offers greater environmental benefits. In fact, sugarcane ethanol is so clean the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has labeled it an “advanced renewable fuel” – confirming its superior environmental performance.

Most sugarcane ethanol currently is produced in Brazil though more than 100 countries, including the U.S., cultivate sugarcane. Brazil – a South American country with a democratically elected government and a long-standing trade relationship with the U.S. – has replaced more than half of its gasoline needs with sugarcane ethanol and made gasoline the alternative fuel in that country.
